COMPUTER- AN OVERVIEW
Computer play an important role in our world today and their importance is increasing day by day. A modern computer can perform millions of arithmetical operations per second. It can store millions of words/instructions. Computer are used in almost all walks in life. Soon, computer controlled robots will be available for disabled people to help them lead more normal lives.
A computer is an electronic device which is capable of doing arithmetic calculation, taking logical decisions and giving very accurate results efficiently. It can also store large volume of data for long time.
In other words a computer is capable of manipulating numbers and symbols. It takes in data as input, processes it, store it and gives information as output with the help of a set of instructions called Program.
Data are facts or informational raw materials represented by symbols. what then is Information.
Information is the relevant knowledge produced as output of data processing operations. This may be used to understand something better, or achieve some specific purpose.
In order to store data and the information to process data some devices are necessary. These are called Hardware. The processing of data is possible only through Software. Hardware is a physical device which can be touched.
Ex. keyboard, monitor, mouse
Software is the instruction given to a computer process data
Ex. computer programs like ms office, media players, browsers.
therefore a digital computer <because it works with digits> is an electronic tool that helps people to do many differents things faster, easier and better.
